Placing an order
Contact us! You can either send us an email at jos.cakes@ntlworld.com or telephone us. If there's no answer when you call, please DO leave a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. A copy of our terms and conditions is available HERE, to which all orders are subject. Your order will not be confirmed unless a deposit is received - if you haven't had a confirmation email, we haven't received your order or deposit.

How much notice do I have to give?

Obviously we'd prefer as much notice as possible, but two weeks notice is usually plenty for a simple celebration cake. For wedding cakes, please try and allow at least a month. We'll try our best however to meet shorter notice periods if required but please be aware that this is not always possible!

How much do your cakes cost?

We believe in quality cakes at sensible prices! Our cakes are made using free range eggs and other quality ingredients but we don't charge the earth. A simply decorated single tier celebration sponge starts from £40 including local delivery (to feed approximately 15 people), and our three tier wedding cakes start from £150. Please contact us for a quote as each order is individual. If you have seen something you like, send us a picture and we will be happy to quote for producing something similar. We ask for a deposit of 50% of the price of the cake to secure your order. This just means we don't end up making a cake specific to someone and then being left out of pocket if they decide they don't want it! Payment of the remainder is due on or before the day of delivery/collection. PLEASE NOTE YOUR CAKE IS NOT BOOKED IN UNLESS A DEPOSIT IS RECEIVED.

Delivery

We will deliver within 10 miles of HD4 6HP for free, however further afield will incur a small delivery charge to cover my hubby's fuel charges. Please ask for details, quoting your postcode. We do not deliver on Sundays unless by express prior agreement.

Storing Your Cake

Decorated cakes should not normally be stored in a refrigerator (unless fresh cream has been used) as the icing will be adversely affected.  If the cake is not to be displayed straight away, it should be stored in the box in a cool room, somewhere where it will not be moved or knocked.

Shelf Life

Decorated rich fruit cakes will keep for several months, but sponge cakes should ideally be consumed within one week of the event. Any cake remaining at the venue after the event should be retained for the customer to take home if desired.

Cutting the Cake

Cakes need to be cut with care, particularly fruit cakes and carrot cakes which can crumble if not handled carefully.  Use a long bladed serrated saw knife, which must be SHARP - ornamental cake cutting knives used for photos are usually nowhere near sharp enough. Use a clean damp cloth to clean and moisten the blade between each cut - this will help stop the knife dragging on the cake crumb. Use a sawing action with the serrated blade - don't just push the knife downwards - and make sure to cut all the way to the base board. Cut the cake in a grid pattern rather than in wedges to ensure you get the maximum number of portions.

Non Edible Decorations

The cake may include non-edible decorations which must be removed before the cake is cut and served, such as wired sugar flowers, fresh flowers, models, internal supports etc. If being cut at a venue, PLEASE ENSURE that items are removed with care and retained for the customer to keep if required - this is especially important with fragile sugar flowers or modelled figure toppers which are usually intended as a keepsake. Please take care when handling wires as these can be sharp. When your cake is delivered, you will be told whether there are wires or supports within the cake so please make sure you're aware of where they are - we can accept no responsibility for any injury sustained due to the wires/supports!
